Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Past people are friendlier than they are today.
As the fast development of cities, people living in urban areas are busier than before as the pace of life is faster. Some may think that people involve more in their own business regardless of the contact with their family and friends. However, that does not accord with my opinion.
First of all, people today communicate more than people in the past. They can get access to each other more easily than before because today is an age of information and communication, people in a remote distance can express their care to friends and even strangers through the Internet and mobile phones. Taking my grandfather for instance. When he was young, he could only write letters to get in touch with his family, and there can be years of no connection between him and his friends, which alienates their relationship in some way. However, the technique makes it more convenient for people today to contact with each other and therefore strengthens the friendship between them.
Secondly, people in the present situation seem to be more open-minded and enthusiastic. This dues to the adaption between different cultures as globalism is the leading trend of the world. Even our Chinese people begin to celebrate the Christmas and foreigners embrace our Chinese New Year. People from different cultures spontaneously communicate with each other when traveling even though they may sign to make themselves understandable. And now, as English has been a worldwide language, this inconvenience is gradually diminishing.
Further more, there are more volunteers today than before who stand out to help people in need. When there is not enough money for children in mountain areas to go to school, volunteers go to them to be teachers; when there are families with only old people left, volunteers stretch their hands out to take care of them. I am still impressed by the volunteers' guidance in the Olympic Games and their translation work to help the foreigners. Just as more and more people become volunteers, people treat each other more friendly than before and the society is more harmonious.
Even though the pace of life has been improved and people are engaged in more complicated stuff, they have their own way to adjust to the faster rhythm, and keep the balance between personal life and relationships with others. Thus, I cherish the belief that people today are friendlier than people in the past.
