A中第二个her,是代词宾格,不能指代名词所有格里's前的名词。而第一个her,是形容词性的物主代词,则可以指代's前的名词。
这个语法点在ManhattanSC里也有提到,整理如下:
1.Nouns in the possessive case (with s or s') are often poor antecedents. The Possessive Poison rule states that possessive nouns can serve as antecedents only to possessive pronouns(物主代词), not to subject(主格)or object(宾格) pronouns. 因为’s前的名词是adj属性,所以代词的主格或宾格不能指代’s部分’前面的名词,只有adj.性物主代词可以指代。 Eg. Several executives’ packages....后面出现them指代executives是不行的。
2.adj.性物主代词不能指代前面某个名词词组里作修饰成分的名词,因为作修饰成分的名词是adj.属性,不是noun属性,不能作为物主代词的先行词。 Wrong: Oil traders have profited handsomely from the recent rise in its price. Right: Oil traders have profited handsomely from the recent rise in the price of oil. The original sentence is incorrect because its has no antecedent. Oil is an adjective in the expression oil traders, and therefore cannot be the antecedent of its.
