Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion costs accounted than the proportion of costs had had in any previous election.

This question should be the same style question as the question about "Nepolion army's supplier" in OG SC. Please reffer the explanation of that queston.

A过去完成时比较好,在acounted for 前;C:1、时态,2、they have been不能指前面acounted for的动作。

因为你读B的时候语义是很清楚的.a greater  proportion 是名词性同位语,解释说明more than half the spending...  (It was a greaterproportion than it had been in any previouselection,在比较中,如果没有歧义,相同的部分是可以省略的。所以it had been 省掉。符合ets 得 not wordy

Although Napoleon's army entered Russia with far more supplies than (supplies) it had had for any previous campaign, it had provisions for only twenty-four days.

1。Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion than (the proportion) they had accounted for in any previous election.

2。Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion than in any previous election.

同意!选B无疑。只是我同意省略的是(the proportion) they had accounted for

支持B!

OG198:Although Napoleon's army entered Russia with far more supplies than for any previous campaign, it had provisions for only twenty-four days.

If than is followed by a clause referring to army, the subject of that clause must be singular (it). Furthermore, the verb of that clause will need to be in the past perfect form (had had) because it refers to a time before the simple past of entered.

If than is followed by a clause referring to costs, the subject of that clause must be plural (they). Furthermore, the verb of that clause will need to be in the past perfect form (had accounted for) because it refers to a time before the simple past of accounted for.

Although Napoleon's army entered Russia with far more supplies than (supplies) it had had for any previous campaign, it had provisions for only twenty-four days.

open to discussion

1.        A large rise in the number of housing starts in the coming year should boost new construction dollars by several billion dollars, making the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than five years ago.

(A) making the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than five years ago

(B) and make the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than five years ago

(C) making the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than it was five years ago

(D) to make the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than five years agoC

(E) in making the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than it as five years ago

A 中  a greater propotion than it was in any previous elections 中的"was" 没有前面的动词作比较。

可不可以这么理解:1992年,more than half the spending的这个propotion 比  any previous elections的propotion都大,那么was是就是正确的。在这里我觉得不能把was根 accounted for平行,was对应的应该是propotion而不是costs.

而且,根据ets出题的习惯,像这种than结构的题,一般是要在than后面加什么东西的,比如than they do in any previous eletion, than those of xxx in any previous elections。
