C.    定语从句wordy，用形容词短语就可以，更加简洁，而且意思没减少；land area的重复使用也累赘；population为抽象名词，them指代不明；but后面不成句子，无法与前面平行； with a population of only 4 million限定性修饰Laos错误，显得有很多个Laos。
D.    Comparable to the size of Great Britain没有问题；only 4 million in population表达不地道；many无所指；在正式语体里面不应该用and many，而应该用“, many of whom”，否则割裂了many与前句的关系。
E.    correct；有说法E中people和population是重复表达，但population和people一个是"数量值"(the number of people),一个人人群，重心不同，并不重复。注意popluation也有all of the people和a city, town的意思，单数名词。
C的解释中有一句是them 指代不明，them 指代前面的people ,还可以指代什么呀？but 后面不成句，为什么many of them are members of....不是句子吗？
with a population of only ...限定修饰Laos 错误，为什么呀？是因为with 不能做限制修饰成分吗？

刚好做到这题。
我的理解是这样的：
A：where 修饰population,明显不对
B:三个分句。分句1，but 分句2，and 分句3。这种结构很混乱。不对
C：同B。而且分句3前面没有连词。
D：but （Laos has) only 4 million in population，and many are ... 正式语里不应该单独用many，同样句子结构混乱。而且补上省略成分以后 Laos has only 4 million in population读上去感觉很怪，人口里有4 million 什么？并未交待清楚。
E：分句1 but （Laos has) a population of only 4 million people，many of whom are ... 两个分句加定语从句，定语从句修饰people，句子结构很清晰。

我感觉似乎从来没有分句1，but 分句2，and 分句3. 这样的句子结构。
逻辑有问题，因为不清楚到底是分句1，but （分句2，and 分句3）这样的转折里面包含并列，或者是分句1，--but 分句2--, and 分句3 这样并列里面插入转折。
要么是分句1，分句2，and 分句3这样的并列。
要么是分句1，but 分句2 这样的转折。

C中But后面不是完整的一句话吗？结构如何混乱？

我觉得看看外国网站上的讲解真的是很豁然开朗的感觉啊～～这个来自gmatclub，转给你看看："many of them" just sounds horrible in that construction; "many of whom" is proper usage.

Here's a general rule (although there are some exceptions): if "many of xxx" is followed by a simple verb, use "whom"... if "many of xxx" is followed by a preposition, use "them".

这位仁兄呀~~many of xxx,后面跟介词，是什么情况的说啊~~？例如many of them  on the top of hill.??
也就是说many of them后面不能构成完整的句子，为什么呢？
