A中的but是副词，but supplementing大概意思就是指Iroquois只是为补充...，再说分词supplementing做伴随，当然是扩充前面一个句子的意思啊。

恩恩，我就是看OG的解释说supplementing 在这里extending 了句子的意思，但是看到but 又觉得作为连词放在这里怪怪的。
你解释说用作副词表 仅仅，我觉得合适，也可以突出supplementing的作用了。
