The argument is about why "technical ingenuity usually brings benefits to those who have this ingenuity, whereas ethical inventiveness brings only pain to those who have this inventiveness."  

E describes a consequence of "ethical inventiveness brings only pain to those who have this inventiveness", but E does not contribute to the strengthening the original argument (the why argument) in and out of itself.
