hi frank, thank you for all that you have done. Could you share some opinions about how important it is to work for a big name multinational company. I am a newly graduate and work for the biggest media group in south China , Shenzhen press group( business includes almost all the newspapers and metro media in Shenzhen). I work for the advertising department ( metro advertising) and salary is pretty good. But i guess it is not recognized widely in US though It is a dominating state owned company. My English is pretty good and have international exchange experience, so I wonder if i should transfer to some MNC such as PG to make myself a better applicant for the BIZ school. Can you give some advice? Thank you !! -- by 会员 huster (2011/7/1 10:26:43)
Of course my friend, happy to help you. Yes, it is helpful to work for an MNC. But it isn’t critical. In fact, we discussed this recently in our presentation in Shanghai and BJ. If you have MNC experience, schools will know that you speak good English, have good soft skills, and understand American business (and personal) culture. If you don’t have that MNC experience, you will need to work TWICE as hard to prove that you HAVE that background. So talk about your ease reaching across international boundaries—that you talk in English every day, etc. Yes, it would be easier if you DO switch to an MNC. But if you don’t, you will simply need to explain that you have the skills that others at MNCs are honing. Make sense my friend?
