The most conspicuous fault in D results from the fact that the ununderscored part in the end of this sentence comprises an finite verb as one part of the coordinate predicates of a relative clause,  a part that is, " but do not denude the forest".  This finete verb wants a finite verb form in the other part of the coordinate predicates.

有点明白了，是因为but后面那个do（做题时为了赶时间没看到，可考试的时候迫于压力很有可能断章取义的哦），前面就要有一个verb与之对应吧，而burning是动名词，需要用that来引出一个动词，我理解的对吧？

可是bon gg的一句话我有些想不通哦，为什么前面有that后面才能有but啊？难道这是公理啊？

这两个从句是平行的，如果意思相同，因为前头用that,那么就用and 或and that,因为这里的意思不同，所以用but

这是that 从句的情况，

如果是burning down individual trees ,那么后面也要用分词,就不会用到but了

所谓的“只有这里用that,后面才能用but”是这个意思

此外，LOGGING在这里表示伐木业，是个名词，就像marketing一样，所以和后面的surface fires相并列，这道题挺“坏“的。

是分词不是动名词，且现在分词在句末时（前面有逗号和主句分割），做伴随状语，或修饰的是主句谓语动词，表示伴随的动作；或修饰整个句子，表示伴随的结果。所以从这个意思上，也不能选C，因为remove 这个动作明显是logging发出的啊；burn也是fire的动作啊。

如果没有这两个逗号也没有后半句的并列成分限制，such work has not addressed either logging removing only selected trees or surface fires burning down individual trees，那又成了定语成分了，就要掂量是用定语从句好还是分词好了。
