应该是D，C的was说明that指代sloth了，sloth1991年被发现，逻辑就错了

因为OG里有个rule是:

前面所有格形式的名词,后面不能用代词指代.

这句中是arm of the sloth,所以后面的it被认为no referent

如果前面有the sloth单独出现,后面可以用it指代.

C最明显的错误是后面用了was去修饰fossilS。C中sloth后的that was found 歧义，可以理解为fossils或者sloth。虽然D好像也有点这个问题，但是用逗号隔开好像比较好。并且C中的this有问题，在GMAT中好像单独出现不太好，后面要有指代的对象，比如this book。D中making应该是现在分词作状语表结果

  D让我想不通的只有一点，就是说date应该是一个瞬间动词，就是“鉴定。。的年份”的意思，应该是瞬间完成的，没有用完成时的理由，而且句子中也没有明显的时间状语。

C、D比较：

（1）found优于that was found，后者没有前者简洁。

（2）对于一个过去发生的事件，题中没有任何提示需要用现在完成时，was dated优于have been dated。

光从MAKING THIS这个上面就应该可以排除C, THIS可以指代的东西太多了, 明显的歧意

D虽说有点怪, 不过把原文的IT换成一个很清楚的名词, 这个名次再逻辑上也是成立的, 这就是ETS正确答案很明显的感觉

一点陋见, OPEN TO DISCUSS....

但是相比于C的莫名其妙的错误，D还是应该比较能够接受的.

真正考试会遇到类似的混浊不清的题目吗？
