对G-6-17Q17也是迷惑中,请NN出来解答一下为何B的语法不对?

楼上的,我第一次做这题也选了B,觉得construction of three separate sewer systems当然得连在一起啦,后来看了讨论觉得B犯的时态错误实在比A的effectiveness失误大多了,现在我也倾向于选A。

请教MM,B的时态错在哪?怎样判断?

  1. Concerns about public health led to the construction between 1876 and 1904 of three separate sewer systems to serve
  2. Concerns about public health have led to the construction of three separate sewer systems between 1876 and 1904 to serve
1876~1904,你还能说它和现在有关吗?句子就是在说那个年代的一件事:对公众健康的关注导致了1876到1904年间兴修三处独立的排水系统以服务于Boston的居民。

如果非要说这种对公共健康的concern持续到现在,那也应该是led to现在的排水工程的兴建,原句根本没提到那会儿对现在的影响呀。

7-40:

I believe A is the best.

C's verb tense feels weird.

以下是引用jonasjin在2005-3-18 23:07:00的发言:

Concerns about public health led to the construction between 1876 and 1904 of three separate sewer systems to serve metropolitan Boston.

  1. Concerns about public health led to the construction between 1876 and 1904 of three separate sewer systems to serve

  2. Concerns about public health have led to the construction of three separate sewer systems between 1876 and 1904 to serve

  3. Concerns about public health have led between 1876 and 1904 to the construction of three separate sewer systems for serving

  4. There were concerns about public health leading to the construction between 1876 and 1904 of three separate sewer systems serving

  5. There were concerns leading between 1876 and 1904 to the construction of three separate sewer systems for serving

i think we can't rule out B because of tense.  "between 1876 and 1904"  is the "construction", not "concerns" concerns may happened just recently. when we don't know when the thing happened exactly and we want to emphasize the fact, we can use present perfect tense.

for A don't you think this expression "construction between 1876 and 1904 of three separate sewer systems " is very awkward?  although B has little problem with "construction    systems between 1876 and 1904 ", the time is not absolutely clear to modify construction, but still understandable.

support this.

6-Q31:

The fact of some fraternal twins resembling each other greatly and others looking quite dissimilar highlights an interesting and often overlooked feature of fraternal-twin pairs, namely they vary considerably on a spectrum of genetic relatedness.

  1. The fact of some fraternal twins resembling each other greatly and others looking quite dissimilar highlights an interesting and often overlooked feature of fraternal-twin pairs, namely they vary considerably

  2. That some fraternal twins resemble each other greatly while others look quite dissimilar highlights an interesting and often overlooked feature of fraternal-twin pairs, namely that they vary considerably

  3. With some fraternal twins resembling each other greatly and others looking quite dissimilar, it highlights an interesting and often overlooked feature of fraternal-twin pairs, namely considerable variation

  4. With some fraternal twins resembling each other greatly and others looking quite dissimilar, it is a fact that highlights an interesting and often overlooked feature of fraternal-twin pairs, namely a considerable variation

  5. Because some fraternal twins resemble each other greatly and others look quite dissimilar, this fact highlights an interesting and often overlooked feature of fraternal-twin pairs, namely they vary considerably

不明白e中的错误,是不是this fact has no antecedent啊,og说this or that no clear referent,那么要怎么样才能有clear referent呢?是不是前面要有fact这个名词的出现才行呢?如此判断过来的,this /that 大多时候是错误的。

E中很明顯的是流水句 this fact......., namely they.......所以錯

a 中是不是the fact of不好,但是具体为什么我自己说服不了自己,一种语感觉得the fact of 不如直接用that 同位语的好

请问什么是流水句啊?这题还是不懂。请哪位NN解释一下啊?谢谢

流水句:

Fragments: Parts of a sentence that are disconnected from the main clause are called fragments.

Example:

Correct: “We saw the doctor and his nurse at the party.” Incorrect: “We saw the doctor at the party. And his nurse.”

Run-on sentences: A run-on sentence is two independent clauses that run together without proper punctuation.

Examples:

Correct: “Jose Canseco is still a feared batter, most pitchers don’t want to face him.”

Incorrect: “Jose Canseco is still a feared batter most pitchers don’t want to face him.”
