Tomlac..Did you get off the waitlist at HBS or something? This is obvious. HBS is just WAYYYYY better than Wharton. In terms of academic placement HBS is on par with Stanford and chicago. Wharton is a great problem, but it has faculty attention problems that were discussed in my thread. that information I first learned from you.
Top econ programs do extremely well on Finance job market. But "top" here only refers to Harvard, MIT, Princeton. Otherwise, one is better off going to a top10 Finance program rather than a top10(none H,M,P) econ program.
In general, for placement:
Among the very very top, Econ is arguably better than Finance programs: H(econ) = M(econ) >= Stanford(finance) = Chicago(finance) >= Princeton = MIT(finance)
