Manhattan - if引导的Actual 与Hypothetical句子的区别

Actual: If Chris and Jad met, they DISCUSSED mathematics.
Hypothetical: If Chris and Jad met, they WOULD DISCUSS mathematics.

The first sentence could be said by someone who is unsure whether Chris and Jad have
actually met: "If this did indeed happen, then that is the consequence." The second sentence, however, predicts the consequences of a hypothetical meeting of the two men: "If this were to happen, then that would be the consequence."

黑体字部分，也就是第一句的解释没看懂。
第一句不是和第二句一样的假定条件，随后推断结果吗？

actual: 遇见就会讨论数学题.(只要遇见这个条件产生就会发生讨论这个结果,不确定的是他们会不会遇见,)
hy: 遇见了可能会讨论数学题.(预测的是他们应该会讨论数学题，但是不能100%确定)

感觉2楼的第二句的解释歧义，现在时的虚拟语气是和现在事实相反，强调实际并没有发生，只是假设如果（没发生的事）发生的话，会怎样。Hy:C和J并未见面，倘若见面，会讨论题目。我是这么认为的哈，不对的话请修正~

第一句话：如果C和J见面，他们就会讨论数学。（也就是说只要一见面，接下来发生的就是他们只做讨论数学这一件事）
第二句话：如果C和J见面，他们应该会讨论数学。（而这说的是，C和J见面，只是可能讨论数学，也有可能做别的事情）

更关键应该是 --->hy ：should be used in counterfactual future conditions.就是LS‘ls 说的...hehe
