I know this question has been asked a millions times but sorry for asking it again.

I'm struggling between Richard Ivey of Western Ontario and Rotman of University of Toronto. Planning to go back to China to work after MBA, I really like to get some advice on which school is better known in China.

Your input is highly appreciated!!!

@wannalifego

Thanks for your response! Appreciated!

I guess UT is better known in China. U of Western Ontario as a whole kind of suck but I heard Ivey is a well respected school.

Different styles all together:

Rotman: Downtown Toronto, Two years, Quantitative, Finance focused, a bit of a commuter school
Ivey: Small town London, One year, Case-Based, GM focused, very tight community

US comparison would be: NYU vs. Darden

Not sure which is more well known in China.

I wouldn't put this like NYU vs Darden but more like NYU vs Kellogg
two best options in Canada though Ivey may have an edge in terms of reputation in Canada, its strong in consulting and general mgmt but no internship opportunity for you,  Rotman is more finance-focused
people in China know toronto for the city then assuming Rotman might be good, but Ivey do has a large alumni base in China which is more practical and accessible than 'famousness'

@reachkevinwang & simonwalker

Thanks guys! Great posts!

I hear great things about both of them. If it's in Canada it might not be a big deal which one to choose cause you know there is no wrong answer. The tricky part is my goal is to go back to China to be closer to family and also develop a career. Indeed people know Toronto for the city and UT is a great school, and people buy that kind of stuff. But Simonwalker mentioned Ivey having a large alumni base in China. Does that mean Rotman's alumni network in China is weak?

Thanks again for your inputs guys. Much appreciated!

I would contact the alum office directly and get some #s.  Ivey has a longer tradition (established earlier), so therefore might be more reputable in China?

I just know that KPCB VC, there is an Ivey grad.  Not sure whether 1 data point proves anything.

Thanks! I didn't know they have a Chinese name. Makes it much easier to search.

Ivey definately holds the internatioal reputation in traning corporate management consultant and strategy planning via his unique case study based teaching methonds. Whereas rotman enjoys strong reputation in deliver the finance knowledge through the traditional academic ways.

You mentioned that you would like to work in China when you graudate. If this is the case, I would like to vote for Ivey for you.  Ivey has a huge alumini networking advance in China especially in Shanghai. Most of the Ivey Chinese graduates come back to shanghai start their career. Things are different for rotman. Most of its graudates stay in Toronto, they may find a strat job as banking operation or personal financial service with $50k~60k per year.
