帝都XDF的一个老师讲过appear的用法。
（1）appear as noun
（2）appear to do

还有B和E中选择的时候，要看到B中的face较之facing是有优先性的，就是face优于facing。
题中时态要是没有明确错误，最好不要轻易改动原意。

先中文理解下这段话的意思：
      拥有强大的体力和高智商，N.看上去已经为环境可能给他们带来的各种困难做好了准备，但是他们在P. era中迅速的消失说明了他们无力适应环境的改变，从而灭亡了。
      你说的evidence，实际上指的是现在大家研究起来发现N.“拥有强大的体力和高智商”这个依据，从而推出做好准备。这个证据是现在的，所以appear用一般现在时，不是过去人们发现的evidence。

Combining enormous physical strength with higher intelligence, the Neanderthals appear(和indicates对应，因为都是现在人的想法) to have been equipped(完成时，其实表明比disappear更前的时态，只不过前面有to，所以是have been) to face any obstacle the environment could put in their path, but their relatively sudden disappearance(已经在过去发生了) during the Paleolithic era indicates(现在人的想法，和appear对应) that an inability to adapt to some environmental change led to their extinction.

appear 在这里应该是“好像”，“似乎”的意思而不是“出现”的意思。 一开始我也误以为后面的disappearance说N 已经消失了，所以appear 应该用过去式。appear 应该与 indicate 对应

appear to = seem to be 可以去掉

the Neanderthals主语 (appear to)
have been equipped谓语
to face any obstacle 不定式做宾语
（that) the environment could put in their path 定从

我觉得have been equipped 不应该是had been equipped，不过不能确定
比如：
Before the Neanderthals disappeared, they had been equipped to ....
Before their disappearance, the Neanderthals have been equipped to...

这题OG解释也不算清楚。我反而觉得是had been equiped，因为appear to 的原因had才变为原型have。

因为OG解释也讲了"disappeared"这词，虽然but后没用动词disappeared，但意思确实是Neanderthals人的消失发生在过去。而“已经做好准备”也确实要发生在消失之前。感觉过去的过去，用过去完成时并无不妥·

呃，怎么我的问题总是跟大家不一样，我觉得B中的have been equipped为什么不能是have equipped.......

首先，appear to have been equipped里面的有两个时态，appear，一般现在时，v. to have done，这个结构表明done比v.的早一个时态（固定用法），即这里appear是一般现在时，那么done的时态就是一般过去时，这里done是been equipped，正好说明N这类人在过去时拥有这种能力的；

其次，为什么appear这里用一般现在时？
要根据句意推测，but后：N的消失...说明...指出这句话实际上是立足于“现在”研究N这类人怎么怎么样；同时appear to的词义“似乎，好像”也是在暗示N有这个能力只是现在的人推测的结果，对现在的观察者而言的。
