Standard Mathematical Finance program > MS&E program later program is mainly for engineering students who wants a management role in a tech or bio or healthcare company, some of them indeed work in Finance although. Not knowing for sure, but this program is relatively easier to get in for fresh-out undergraduates major in science and engineering. Personal opinion: Dartmouth's MS&E is better than this one. You may want to check its curriculum to confirm, but I doubt this is a good program if you want to work in Finance. -- by 会员 shaorubing (2011/3/15 15:45:23)
You don't get to judge a program before you do your homework! You don't even know what M&E is at Stanford! Don't mislead those students here who trust you! The program at Dartmouth is MEM, namely engineering management. However, MS&E is a department at Stanford, whose OR is ranking NO.1 in US! There're undergrads, masters, and phds at MS&E. It is like the IEOR at Columbia, ORIE at Cornell, ORFE at Princeton, and it is stronger than those other departments in some areas. And unlike Columbia, who takes in hundreds of masters in 4 or 5 programs each year, only around 150 masters are enrolled at Stnaford. MS&E's curriculum can be tailored to be like an MEM, but I am sure it can also be tailored to be like Financial Engineering. And some students stay at Stanford to pursue a PhD. Remember, only 5 cores and 4 electives are required to choose from the department, out of the 15 courses in total. LZ is right. The only problem is the name and its differentiation among the graduates. -- by 会员 oliver109 (2011/3/15 23:40:43)
