我本来选的也是D，但后来查了一下quarter的用法，觉得D中缺少of是硬伤，要么是one-quarter of the amount, 要么是 quarter the amount，不能是one-quarter the amount。

quarter

–noun

1.	one of the four equal or equivalent parts into which anything is or may be divided:

–adjective

42.	being one of four equal or approximately equal parts into which anything is or may be divided.

至于C，我觉得问题也有, 但相对而言长得最象正确答案.

看了半天,唉...

窃以为one-quarter the amount是对的,看longman有,two and a half thousand people, n.+n.我觉得和one-quareter the amount是一样的

至于说the number是指什么,我觉得是指the number of drive-ins对应了前面的4000,但并非是前面的4000,而是今天的number

后面的amount才是指4000这一具体数字,这一点前人已经证明了

相对于C,比较对象不对应,drive-ins和4000比较,我觉得是最大的问题,there be表示自然存在,这里合适么??请NN指教

补充说明,the number is less than...在数学中应该很常见,表示数目小于,所以less修饰number应该没有问题,换个角度看,large,small,great修饰number没问题,那么large对small,great对little,所以修饰也没问题

D中 the number is less than 1000合理

这里there be就可以指代数字，还要不要考虑什么自然存在的问题呢？
