Oh, If I were you, I will definitely choose NYU I am currently doing MFE at Berkeley

Interesting, can you let us know your rank for UCB, NYU and CMU? Which one would you choose in the first place? Thank you!

I can not rank UCB. I will soon graduate from Haas and for me it's going to be top.1 forever plus I will work hard to achieve good reputation for our program as long as I live! For NYU vs. CMU, I can say both of them are top tier. No real big difference especially if you choose NYC campus (cus CMU has two campus). For career I think NYU is more quant while CMU more S&T. UCB is more Buy-side.
One ZJU alumni graduate from Stanford FM spent 3~4 years working in Bay Area for a couple of different positions before she move to GS HK this year. Two ZJU alumni graduate from CMU MSCF go to JPM HK for equity trader and GS NY for IBD quant. So as you see, ZJU rocks!!! I don't know ZJU alumni from NYU yet. I will be the first ZJU alumni from Berkeley, lol. (although I suck!)

emmm...what is the proportion would you say that Chinese ppl graduated from Berkeley go for trading/quant trading? and where are they located? for ppl who will work in buy-side, what are the job functions and titles they are expecting? I have ad from CMU, wondering if worth waiting for Berkeley.

#1. I don't know #2. worth waiting

sorry but what is IBD quant?
and btw, people who say NYU has better reputation on the street, can't just agree... _Probably_, and I emphasize on PROBABLY, if there was a chance, it would be on IBD side, definitely not on S&T / Quant side.
On the street, we have HYP + Wharton dominating, (Especially wharton, which is an undergraduate IBD feeder...) the only schools outside ivy that can be competing with those are Stanford, MIT, Chicago (graduate level).
#1. The IBanking have desk quant that take care of some modeling and pricing and that's where MFE comes in. For example, I know one Berkeley MFE once worked in boa IBD for a role that needs coding.
#2. Reputation-wise: NYU MFE is famous for producing hard-quant because their top stands in applied math; Stanford FM has no comparison. On broad reputation side, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Wharton, Stanford, MIT, Chicago dominates Wall Street--no doubt about that, and NYU has no comparison here.
#3. For MFE alone: some schools have traditionally good contacts with certain firms and that makes them really attractive--CMU with DB, Berkeley with Goldman, Blackrock, BNP and etc. For those that wondering whether worth applying/waiting Berkeley MFE, the answer is definitely Yes. You can do whatever you like after that.
