这道题选C，是旧版prep语法第117题，以下我把语法笔记详解复制过来

句子结构：The population… has been increasing…, and the country will have…

考点：指代一致、平行对称、简洁有效
指代一致，结合原文要表达的意思，确定代词的指代对象及单复数。
平行对称-谓语，注意未划线部分句子给的提示，尤其是连词和代词，如 and、it 等，使划线部分与未
划线部分保持结构平行、单复数及指代一致。

(A) it指代对象错误，在本选项中it指代population，而原意应该指代India；what is estimated as的表
达方式啰嗦，而且与probably意思上有重复，被动语态也不能清楚地表达施动对象，要慎用；estimate
用作动词“估计，估算”时后面常跟介词at，而不是as，estimate sth (at sth)。
(B) they没有指代对象。
(C)    正确，probably简洁地表达了“可能”的意思。
(D) there be结构无法与未划线部分句子的and surpass连接。
(E)    原因与D选项相同。
