关键词是“the”。

B里的“more than the 500 slaves legally considered as”，只能说明carter这次free的slave比500多，但不能确定slaves的所属。把句子意思改变了。

按我的理解，只能说slaves的所属不一定是carter的，ets说一定不是好像也挺牵强。

(C) and set free more than 500 slaves, who were legally considered as是错的：表示了荒谬的逻辑意思（先吓晕再解放？），还有consider后的as多余。

但是，将C改成setting  free more than 500 slaves, who were legally considered 可不可以？与A的意思有什么分别？

如果改了C还是和A 有含义上的区别,C说把他们吓晕了,还放了一些 slaves

而A是说通过签契约把他们吓晕了,放人是伴随说明签契约这件事的,既也是把他们吓晕的原因

我在问题中已经把C改成分词了，我的问题就是在别的都一样时，setting free the more than 599 slaves who were legally considered的限制性修饰所表达的意思和setting  free more than 500 slaves, who were legally considered的非限制性修饰 所表达的意思有没有区别。注意，一个有the一个没有the，一个没逗号一个有逗号。

限制性修饰体现整体概念：对句子整体都有影响，即句子成立是在that/who从句成立的基础上

非限制性修饰体现局部概念：只就句子中某一对象的特性进行描述，去掉后并不影响句子的成立

这里有the 和逗号的A是特指属于他的500名--这是原文所要表达的，（他不是乱放）

而用C，非限制性，从句只作进一步描述slave的特性（属于他），在无此从句下巨子依然成立，这时就会造成与BD类似的问题，有歧义（不知道是谁的--同意Lyle说的ETS太牵强）

我认为，非限制性从句所要表达的特性并不是句子的重点内容与关键所在，即可以去掉但不会改变原来要表达的中心意思，或造成歧义

改进后的C模样，数量上：more than 500 slaves是were legally considered 。。。这一点与A在意思上应该没有区别；

但，意思上：因为非限定性可以去掉，但如果是去掉的话，感觉这个句子不完整；难道，放了超过500个奴隶就吓晕了家人？那要是放了499个奴隶说不定就不会吓晕别人了。

而本意应该是放了他自己的超过500个奴隶，这样才会在整体意思上说明了吓晕别人的来由。
