I don't think anybody here has serious fin paper published before he/she enter the phd program.

bill2008 may have some papers otherwise it's very hard for him to think about it and highlight it here. Of course, Nobel prize in Econ is also important, if you have one.

Your concern is trivial; letter from that professor sounds great! Rice Fin PhD is new, right? Then you might have greater chance.

I appreciate your comments a lot! For Rice, your statement holds, but I will not only apply Rice, I have a relatively low GMAT and a good GRE, I dont know whether the committee like GMAT a little bit but mine is low. If my GRE can beat a low-700 GMAT, I will definitely not take GMAT again. Actually, my concern should be "is retaking GMAT necessary for me?" in order to show the best me to the committee.

1. Yes... I don't give much hope to those schools like Rice or better ones. 2. I may not retake GMAT if I dont have much spare time.
