感觉如果suggesting放 evidence前面，作为动名词表“建设性证据“，那么句子的中心就变了。

句子中心变成：Australian embryologists have found evidence。 主要说科学家找到了某个证据

而如果suggesting放后面，句子中心则是：

evidence suggesting  that the elephant is descended from an aquatic animal and that its trunk originally evolved.

即证据揭示了某个事实。

我觉得句子的主要意图是要揭示这个事实，而非说明找到了某个证据

不错,引导宾语从句的that的并列很常见,不过引导定语从句的就是wordy和awkward
