no econ background is not a big deal,   you can take some econ courses when you do accounting master in china. the key is  that some econ phd programs  are not so hard as finance and accounting programs to be offerred.

your math background is a nice preparation for econ phd. Basically econ phd is always about maths

then you can get more chance to transfer to or reapply accounting.
