这题是白先勇128页题，答案是B，解释是C中AND 前后不对称。如果童鞋们有书，请再翻到12页，以下也是书中原内容：

这题要说不对称的话，也是B不对称，and前后一个是一般过去式，一个是过去完成式。个人觉得C选项相对来说更简洁

"and with" should set off alarm bells in your head here, because the first part of the sentence is not also a preposition. "Once" begins a subordinate clause.

Also, the tense of "being" does not mix well with "demonstrated" (past versus present). Let's move on to the next choice.


(B) and its superiority over the horse had been

You don't have superiority over something. You have superiority to something. NEXT!


(C) and its superiority to the horse

This is clear and concise. I likee.


(D) its superiority over the horse

Same as part B. Note that this is very similar to choice C. Usually the correct answer is one of two similar choices.


(E) with its superiority to the horse having been

The whole point of the demonstration is to prove the superiority. This choice can easily be taken as if the superiority were already proven before the demonstration. Never use a conjuction to link two separate ideas. It's very confusing.

Also, "having been" is a bad conjugation here and does not mix with the simple past tense of "was demonstrated".

这道题很混蛋，是道悬案。B和C各有道理。
superiority over/to 各有出处，不是问题的关键。
我现在就是说B的had been有没有问题？而C的 superiority to the horse proved，究竟又对不对？

and等表示平行关系不一定要时态的平行。平行的本质是意思的平行。
主语不一样（usefulness和superiority)怎么能省略be呢？
所以小白的答案是对的。

补充我的理解：从逻辑角度看，先是superiority被prove了，再是usefulness被demonstrate。是一先一后的关系啊，没有证明你怎么敢宣布。。。所以过去的过去用had done应该没事吧。。。
