再问og60，that为什么不能指代goal

就是因为it特指，而that范指一类的原因吗？另外，like可以作连词，e中的as改为like，对否？谢谢大家。

that有时候，后面加限定，就是和并不特指前面所说的对象。所以，你的说法，我个人同意；

like不可以用在此处；因为是as 后面是一个句子。大全做到一半，你就明白了。

我的意思是a中的that为什么不能指代goal，like a goal of earlier generations，意思也通啊

是仅仅因为gmat中that必须和of连用，of后修饰that的原因吗？

请问答案E中 it 能否换成 that? 就是 as that was of earlier generations? 看了一二楼的讨论 似乎有些感觉 但还是不太明白it ,that 在比较从句中指代的区别，好像一般都用that 指代前面提到的单数内容阿？

我当时做这题的思路是这样的，A选项中的 that of 如果替代到主句，从形式上讲，that可以指代 the goal of 中的goal 也可以指代 工a majority 中的majority,从意思上也说的过去。这样就造成了多重指代，意义不清。

而正确选项中的it was of 在主句中找替代就只能是 it is a goal of.

不知道这样想对不对。

另外刚刚查阅了LZM，看到P211有详细的that替代总结

总而言之，it/they等于前面出现的所指代对象，而that/those相当于前面相对比对象的一部分，仅表示类别或属性，而不包括前面对比现象中的限定语部分。

“绝对不可以单独使用that指代前面的单数或不可数名词，而一般是用that of + n.结构指代或换用其他表达方式”

放在本题里面来说，用it就可以指代owning and living in a freestanding house on its own land，而用that就不可以

使用that进行代替指代的通常情况为

A of B (un)like that of C   这里A和that是等同的，如OG 51

再次讨论：

放在本题里面来说，用it就可以指代owning and living in a freestanding house on its own land，而用that就不可以

我原先的这个地方理解有误，希望没有误导大家！下面是我对这里用it可以，而用that不可以的重新思考：

在这里that和it比较有争议的应该是AE两项，

A中：

（1）like比较应该是主语，而主语是owning and living in a freestanding house on its own land 这里明显不对，除非like后面改为owning....的短语主语，所以OG说用as好，因为Like这里缺乏与之相配合的短语主语

（2）that不能单独指代，只能够用that of进行指代，如果用that of，则其指代未划线部分a goal of a majority of young adults 中，到底是a goal还是a majority，指代对象并不单一，所以OG说that的指代不清晰

E中：

it可以直接指代，不像that后必须加of，所以这里可以非常清晰的指代短语主语owning and living in a freestanding house on its own land，指代对象单一，故为最佳的选择

BTW：it的特指和that的泛指，我还没有体会出来，有明白的XDJM可以分析一下么？
