在这个帖子也说一下,据网上查证和OG官方的说法,as if to do用法实际存在,只是这里不太恰当:
“as if to do” 是 “as if + 与主句一致的主语 + 将来时”的省略,如:
I made a fierce countenance (as if to eat) him alive. 我恶狠狠地拉起脸来,仿佛要把他活生生地吞下去。
【= (as if I would) eat him alive.】
He rushes out of the room, (as if to meet) some important person. 他冲出房间,好像是要去迎接某个重要人物似的。
【(as if he will meet some important person.】
分析: 本题的figures seem ...如果加as if to indicate引导表语从句还原完整为as if figures will indicate...原意应该这些强劲的数据貌似暗示了什么,而不是这些强劲的数据好像将要暗示什么,是本来就暗示了不需要将来时做赘述,有个时态上的瑕疵。并且indicate后接了宾语从句不应该省略that,尤其是在还有插入语的情况下,容易引起歧义。
