首先，我想说，觉得8楼才是正解。
其次，我想问，根据这句话

LZ我想补充一下 E选其实是最对称的 完整的句子是： Laos has a land area  comparable to that of Great Britain but （Laos has）a population of only four million people。因为平行，所以相同的成分，也就是括号里的成分就被省略了。我记得逗号+but的用法与逗号+and的用法一致，就是加了逗号后，but或者and之后的句子需要是完整的有主谓的句子（主语可以为代词），比如..., but Laos has...，如果but/and后没有主语，句子就成了run-on sentence的一种。如果前后主语一致而不想重复主语，且用but/and 连接前后句子，but/and前不能有逗号，就像1楼举的例子，he wanted nothing but (he wanted) to stay here。这是我通过OG总结的，不是语法定理什么的。选择性的看吧。

答案是D，那么and前为啥有个逗号呢？结构到底是怎样的？

因为在and和to中间插入了一个短语，所以and前面就加了一个逗号。
