刚刚查了一下Longman的例句，刚好看到

It's typically American to serve all the food for a meal at the same time.

不知道这句里面的typically American 是不是ls说的？不过typically在这个里面还是做adv, 修饰adj. American...那么还是跟这个题不太一样吧

所以...我又混乱了...麻烦ls的TX再解释一下吧...

至于typically american 要看语境 可以是N可以是ADJ
He is typically American。
typically后面直接可以跟when啊 between啊 N.啊

在没有引起歧义的情况下
WHO TYPICALLY 没有TYPICALLY简洁么
一般都是就近修饰 很少会跳跃修饰的
所以简单点来~~

根据句意，Typically后面直接跟名词，排除A,B,E. C时态为过去进行时，故排除

解释一下，E 确实是between。。。with用错了。通过排除法可以选出D。
D 中，typically其实是关键，而且typically也不修饰ship owner，因为adv不能修饰 noun或者noun phrase。假设我们把typically换成typical 并且用typical修饰ship owner，那这句话可能反而错了。因为clients, typical ship owners, overseas merchants, or professional moneylenders 就变成了平行结构，可是前面用了between暗示了后边是两个或者两组人。
再来说说typically的用法，看A选项的typically being A， B or C，这个being是可以省略的，尤其是在口语中。所以D选项中typically修饰的是被省略了的being。
