两个问题请教:

1. 在LZM的主谓一致当中称, "half(rest, plenty, part, fity percent, etc) of +主语, 如主是可数名词谓语用复数, 若是不可数用单数", 那么是不是说half of an apple 也用复数?

2. Sales of US manufactured goods to nonindustrialized coutried rose to $136 billion in 1992, which is 14 percent more than the previous year and largely offsets weak demand from Europe and Japan

B 14 percent higher than the previous year's figure
C an amount that is 14 percent higher than the previous year's figure

为什么选C 呢, amount is higher than the figure??? 这不是比较对象不统一么?

Amount= the total , the sum that is the figure

so C is better

if B change to 14 percent higher than the 13 percent of the previous year , maybe oK

half of the pl. form of countable --------> 谓语用复数

你的意思是说, amount, sum, income, 都可以和figure 做直接比较么? 还有其他的词么?

1，half of an apple应该用单数。

2，amount is higher than the figure数字高于数字，可以啊？！ 请教楼主是怎么理解的？看不懂你的问题。

我的理解是amount 不是数字而是个概念, amount 就好象是height, volume, area....

the amount of the goods, 你不能说the figure of the goods 吧?

你总不能说 the volume of the box is higher than the figure 吧?

You are right。 ‘the figure of the goods ’sounds ugly。But the amount of the goods is a figure。

那请问 the volume of the box is 14% higher than the figure of that one 对么?

figure 是"数字"32, 42, 24, the amount 是"数量", xx pieces, xx cartons, xx dollars, 而不是说, the amount is 23 或42

如果答案是an amount that is 14 percent higher than the previous year's(amount), 或an figure that is 14 percent higher than the previous year's(figure) 我就觉得没问题了, 困惑啊....

the volume of the box is 14% higher than the figure 应该可以。of that one不可以加在figure后面。

我的上个帖子已经很清楚啦？再说详细一点，“The volume of the box” is a figure. So "The figure" is 'the volume of the box'. So "the figure of that one " is "'the volume of the box' of that one(box)".

你的想法有道理，非常佩服你的严谨，可是觉得你想得太深入了。figure=An amount represented in numbers，figure 就是个amount。
