看了几个回帖，发现大家都没有注意到这道题的奥妙。我的解题思路是这样的:这题划线后是虚拟语气，划线前是一般现在时，所以or else必错。需要一个分号和虚拟条件句，所以合适的选项是B, E。E有明显错误，可以排除。
但是 朗文中的这个例句和前辈所说正好矛盾！这如何解释呢？

关键是 so reflective 前面少了 is.....
原文说的意思。。。是polar ice中的很少一部分融化。。。感觉B is better

当做or else是不合适的，因为原意的otherwise也是加了逗号的，说明整个the water levels of the oceans would rise 250 feet and engulf most of the world’s great cities.应该是虚拟的主句，这样看来B是最合适的。不过这样分析确实太牵强了

不是，只要这里BE动词功能相同就可以省略，而不是严格的形式相同，因为功能相同才是平行最基本的要求，如果功能不一样，即使形式相同一样不能省略，这题可以查一查以往的帖子，有不少牛人的解释

同意这种说法，纠结万年的一道GWD 出现在新PREP上，也说明了这个问题。

说明be的平行中的省略时可以被ETS原谅的。

a) used to say that there will be a bad result if someone does not do something : Hurry up or else we’ll miss the train.

b) used to say what another possibility might be : The salesman will reduce the price or else include free insurance.

c) used to threaten someone : Hand over the money, or else!


好像这题是第二种用法。

我也在为这个问题纠结，看来看去it 只能指代polar ice，do so指代melts，不过真的是很不合指代的要求
