D选项我感觉读起来有些绕口，不是那么顺畅，但是找不出什么大的语法毛病，不过but后面直接跟了一个the river有点儿指代前面的a river的嫌疑，我感觉这里把the改成"a"更好一些；
另外but the river in San Antonio winds...总感觉没有but in San Antonio the river winds顺畅
其次，D中的In few United states cities today,这里是说今天或者现在几乎没有几个城市把河流作为城市生活的焦点，这里和原文中有些出路，因为题目中说“不再”表示一种持续的状态；而today感觉只表示一个时间点的

个人觉得B的错误在于which指代了US

B：the river特指错误；which错误地指代了US
C：比较对象错误；the river in many cities in the United States is no longer the focal point of urban life好像在说某一个特定的river不再是很多城市life的focal point了
D：In few United States cities today, a river is the focal point of urban life, 这种反向的表达方式其实改变了原意。
表示在极少的cities里river是focal point（few），原句是说在很多cities里面river已经不再是focal point（no longer）

个人认为E中的the river也不太好，但是相比较而言还是选E
