答案是A,我选的D。A和D的区别有二，其一是介词的不同。但是在我看来，for是不是更好呢？这个extra paper应该是指cigarette外面包的那层纸吧？从空间结构上理解，这层纸不应该是be used in the cigarette。
其二是thereby和and thereby，这里我想问个问题：thereby表示的是结果，所以承接的句子与上句是因果的逻辑关系，是不是thereby之前就不可以再用“and”了？（因为and表示的并列关系）。

答案是A,我选的D。A和D的区别有二，其一是介词的不同。但是在我看来，for是不是更好呢？这个用in才对的，因为是用在烟里面的这个extra paper应该是指cigarette外面包的那层纸吧？这个是指在烟里面又多加了一层纸，如果只是原本的那层，就不用说extra了哈；从空间结构上理解，这层纸不应该是be used in the cigarette。

至于你说如果加了and的情况就是你说的那样，会导致句子结构发生变化，逻辑意思不符
