partly because 不是应该对应partly because 平行的吗？为什么这题选E？答案认为D被动语态awkward，是不是说明简洁性比平行结构要重要？

不定式和VING做主语在GMAT中有什么区别

D，partly because和partly because平行，可是仔细一看，还是E更合适。D的被动态繁琐了，而且一般不是这么用的。而E，是partly...和partly...平行，partly to 的部分和前句连接更加紧密，用动词不定式表示原因/目的。
并不能去比较简洁和平行的重要性，还是要具体看句子的情况吧！

个人认为：动名词做主语：1) 表示某一正在发生的事情或者状态；2) 通常指一个比较抽象或范范的东西。
         动词不定式做主语：1) 表示还没有发生的或将要发生的；2) 通常指一个比较具体的事情。

上述句子，用不定式更为恰当。

并不能去比较简洁和平行的重要性，还是要具体看句子的情况吧！

很同意你关于不定式表目的的说法，我原来不理解句意认为表原因，看来词汇量不够是很吃亏的。

这道题目如果按GMAC一般的出题思路的话是完全要选D的， partly because和 partly because对应不说，而且certain characteristics should be acquired by their steers 与 crossbreeding is said to provide hybrid vigor还一致。所以选择D是没错的，而且很符合GMAC一贯的SC出题思路。 不过这题他解释的时候说前面一句的被动语态有点awkward，但是没有说它错，所以这样用是对的，但是有点awkward，所以GMAC这点的解释就是说习惯上不这么用，而并不是说它是错的。 partly to acquire certain characteristics in their steers 显然更加简洁明了，你可以比较一下把这个characteristics放前面然后后面用被动语态和原句的那个crossbreeding的后面的那个被动语态比较一下。是不是发现原文的那个crossbreeding的用的还是比较上口，但是把characteristics放前面后面再用被动语态是不是有点awkward呢？ 虽然说D是完全符合GMAC的出题规律的，但是这题人家就是这样想我们怎恶魔着？ 只好适应它。。
GMAC就喜欢考察你对句子的理解，比如是不是wordy啊，awkward之类的东西，所以还是那一句话，并不是因为它们是错的，而是嫌它罗嗦和不是习惯用法而已。
所以这一题并不需要去深究，考试中即使出现这样的题目也不会太多的，一题两题了不得了，再说了你也不一定选错啊不是么？
