在SC大全的第266页，是第10版OG里面的题目
9. Astronomers at the Palomar Observatory have discovered a distant supernova explosion, one that they believe is a type previously unknown to science.

(B) that they believe it to be
(C) they believe that it is of
(D) they believe that is
(E) they believe to be of
Choice E is best. The pronoun that in A and B should be deleted, since the pronoun one is sufficient to introduce the modifier and the sentence is more fluid without that. In B and C, it and that it are intrusive and ungrammatical: the idiom is “believe x to be y.” In the context of this sentence, the infinitive to be is more appropriate than the limited present-tense is in referring to an event that occurred long ago but has been discovered only recently. Finally, A, B, and D lack of and so illogically equate this particular explosion with the whole class of explosions to which it belongs: it is not a type but possibly one of a type.
看了解释之后有两个疑问：
1.one 可以引导从句吗？我以为只有which, that, where, who等疑问词才可以引导从句
2.believe to be可以理解为插入语，并在分析中可以拿掉，那如果抽掉这部分，最后一句话就是one of a type ...., 可是一般 one of 后面不是都加复数的吗？

1   ONE在这里引导是同位语从句  
2   把句子还原过来就是  they believe one to be of a type    就是说这个新星爆炸是属于一种类型  
而且在这里不能理解为插入语  因为插入语就是一个独立的结构  而这里 one后面跟的是一个定语从句 one 做believe 的宾语

they believe to be作插入语， one (they believe to be)   (of a type )  of  a type 是一个用法，表示 前面那个和of a type 类似

此处one 后接了一个同位语从句，省略了that。因为此处有that显得有点wordy and  awkward~
