如果修饰语都放进去的话就是：

    处于1千年前美国西南部他们所管辖的领域的复杂的道路和建筑，

而前半句，是否理解对做题不是很影响，因为看到有Navajo for “ancient enemies”做同位语，所以主句的主语应该是某某古人。
前半句我理解其意思可能是：这些祖先现在被称为A..(他们自己并不知道)， 古代被其敌人称为N..（或者是N..的古代敌人）
