我这么想也不是完全没有道理的。请看prep1第45题的正确选项Applying a new method for analyzing the chemistry of tooth enamel, scientists have examined molars of prehuman ancestors and determined that their diets were more varied than had been supposed.这里就是用的and 连接先后两件事：先examined molars of prehuman ancestors，再determined that their diets were more varied than had been supposed.。

所以想请NN指导一下怎么辨别是表目的（to do）还是表修饰(that)

   2、succeed in doing A and doing B这种表达是否正确？看以前的帖子说只能success in doing A and in doing B。另外succeed in doing A and B呢？

查了一下,  固定搭配是succeed in, 不是succeed to, 朗文字典解释, 并且没有提及关于succeed to的用法;不知是否字典有遗漏;总之, succeed in是有的.

白勇有说, 并列时, 有介词的最好要补出, 除非有提示, 比如, call for A, B, and C, 这就不用补;因为B暗示了不用补出, 所以C也就不用了.

后面的doing A and B要根据句子意思判定, 比如该题B(我就是正在看这个题所以查到你帖子的, 哈哈), prep解释说是for 和 to 破坏了平行; 我认为有疑问, 因为实际上for后面的electricity to be generated and to heat 也足以构成平行, 只是牛们在prep中未点明, 所以我也不知此处平行到底有何不对, 也许是语态不对?

请NN定夺....

后来一想是因为原文第一句话的succeeded for the first time 因此mining及其目的要优于先mining+producing
所以还是优先用to

至于你说的问题，我觉得不应该是本题的考点，我觉得要抓住题目的本质哦！
如果你真要想通这个的话，我是这样想的：
Scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory have succeeded for the first time in mining heat from the Earth's interior and producing energy on a commercial scale, enough for efficient generation of electricity and heating factories and homes.  
你看，虽然此句是平行的，但是后面还有一个后置定语enough for efficient generation of electricity and heating factories and homes.  
那么这个时候这个后置定语是修饰两个动词的mining和producing
而读句子后会发现，这enough for efficient generation of electricity and heating factories and homes. 的后置定语是修饰to to produce energy on a commercial scale这句话的，只有energy才能
for generating and for heating  
因此必须用to do的形式将mining和produce分开！
