第一题：只能在AC里面选吧。（利用主谓等排除BDE）
C答案：is expected to make an offer to buy First Interstate Bank until a merger agreement be signed by them with a provision for penalties if the deal were
- until引导的从句，主句用的是一般现在时，那么从句用一般现在是，be 错。
- by them只能指代potential investors, 而他们肯定无法sign agreement。所以错。另外them在这里还可以理解成合后面的with a ...引起歧义。

第二提：
gear towards是固定搭配。prep讲义上说C逻辑哟问题，（不能enhance their preparation）这一点我不太同意。记得这个固定搭配就好了。 gear to = gear towards都要加名词。

ABC其实可以这么看
C. "be signed by..."  中"be"明显时态错误

A。"to buy..."
B. "for buying..."
表目的，to do 优先。所以看不出虚拟语气也能判断的。A is the ans.

不知道楼主做第一题时候是否和我以前感觉一样，在时间非常紧迫的情况下，我当时是把C中省略掉的should看成是expect动词的虚拟用法了，而后面有一个(should) be的用法+if sth were虚拟用法来证实我的想法。

后来我查了下虚拟语气用法才知道自己弄混了两个概念，其实expect和if sth were是各自独立的虚拟语气用法。

1. expect主要用于否定句和疑问句的宾语从句中，即expect that sth should do，should在这里不可以省略，这种用法并不等同于我们一般所见的表建议、命令、要求的动词其宾语从句后的should可以省略直接加动词原形就可以了。

原题中expect并不是宾语从句的用法，而是expect to do的用法，所以我觉得这里和虚拟用法不沾边。况且A项中的省略掉should的地方是在until引导的从句中，确实太奇怪了。

2. if sth were这种类型的虚拟句子有两种表示法：

1）If 条件从句的谓语用虚拟语气，主句也要用虚拟语气-即那些should/would/could/might那些，这里不多废话了。

2）if条件从句的谓语用虚拟语气，主句谓语动词不用虚拟语气。

很明显原题的C项用法是2）种用法，if the deal were not to be concluded引导的条件从句，而前面的主句是现在时态并没有任何的虚拟语气形式表现。

我不太同意3楼同学对2题的答复，我这里有例句可以证明gear to 后面是可以跟动词的，如下：

The flow pulse of the transformer flowmeter has a 1/16 pulse of single gear to measure dynamic flow of high pressure hydraulic system.

In order to improve productivity, AT89C51 and whom L298 a stepping motor controller which consist of AT89c51 and L298 is used to drive gear to drive machine to rotate. gear toward+n或者doing是正确的。 此题我还是比较同意语法笔记的说法，C项错在平行上。 要么针对to的平行是are geared to enhance athletes' performance and to prepare them 要么就是针对动词的平行 are gear to enhance athlete's performance and prepare them 但是此题都没有以上两种平行，相反是作用于名词的平行即athletes' performance and their preparation，这样我觉得是否定了原题的原意，所以C是错误的。 OPEN TO DISCUSS.

第一题我选的是B，当时实在是没想到…纠结于…虚拟语气的规则……至于C，也是靠楼上的方法排除了……
至于to do, for doing老实说还是看到了，只是这似乎是相对好不好问题，是排在语法正确性之后考虑的……
第二题实在惭愧，只是在排出完的里面找了个感觉靠谱的，仔细一读，的确漏洞太多。还是阵脚自乱……

5楼的同学，你找个两个句子都有问题啊。 我仔细看了看你句子中的gear与原文中的gear貌似不是一个“gear"啊。。。你再看看 ？？

恩，我仔细看了一下，确实我放上来的这两个句子里面的gear是做名词用的。不过gear to后面接名词和动名词的说法确实很难说服我，虽然此种用法也存在，但是gear to do的用法也很多的。
我再放上几个例句，大家共同研究下哈。
