今天再看这道题目，突然产生一种平行的感觉，红体部分两个动名词修饰，平行的恰到好处

根据Manhattan的sentence Correction(4th edition，2008，P42)讲解：  “Sometimes the subject of a sentence” is an -Ing phrase or even a whole clause. This sort of subject is always singular and requries a singular verb form. ”

它还举了一例：Having good friends IS a wonderful thing.

而且，从逻辑上来看，并不是“增加的（rising作形容词）存货”本身（句子主语此时是“存货”，形容词可划去）导致production cutbacks；而是“不断增加存货”（此时是rise的ing形式，主语是一个行为，rising与inventories关系更紧密，无法划掉）这种行为下导致的。由此可看出，这样的一个行为才是句子的主语，并非像OG所说的那样。

希望能得到斑斑或NN的回答。

个人觉得having friends跟这题的状况有点不同

having friends有点像俗语的感觉

譬如having lunch；playing football

或者可以说这个不是一个抽象的动词

而本题里 如果这里要用rising作主语的话 我感觉用rising in inventories更合适

而且就像OG10里面对于which的解析一样：

   Some writers follow the convention that which can only be used for nonrestrictive clauses, but insistence on this rule is controversial, and both (A) and (C) can be rejected on other grounds.

这句话也点出了GMAC的思路，语法毕竟不是科学，很多都是一个总结的过程，但是GMAC出题的时候肯定不会把考生大量的精力引导到这种模糊的考点上，此题(D)中的correspondingly increased sales就给了考生排除的理由。
