yeozyeoz> Congrats! No, it does not put you at a disadvantage, although depending on how good your English is, you may prefer to meet in person to improve the communication..

blueskiesny> Wharton's interviews are blind. This means they tend to be easier. However they have a strong behavioural component, so be sure to come with many detailed examples of how you worked in teams, showed leadership, solved tough problems, and so on... (basically, essays, but in words.)

zhuyi> The GMAT is like the TOEFL. It can keep you out of the programme if your score is too low, but it won't get you in. The problem I've noticed is that most people don't really know what makes a good essay..

connie> No disadvantage. Don't worry. It's purely a logistical issue. I believe 2nd year students do phone interviews- admissions officers travel. I believe this is the first time they're doing it, since they've cancelled alumni interviews (in the past, that was their backup). So no historical data.

Hi Jason, Thanks for the reply. If Wharton interviews are blind and relatively easy, does that mean a lot  more people will get interivew and a lot less is actually admitted? If in this case, what's the rough ratio if you have any idea? Thanks a lot

Cheers Jason, I've decided to go for the in-person. I was just reading your older posts on interviews, very good stuff. Thanks a lot for everything. And fingers crossed for my interview.

NY> Historically, 40% interview, 40% admit after interview. This year, who knows? (But I'm guessing it'll be the same.)

yeozyeoz> Good luck!

Hi everyone,

Now that the last application cycle has ended, I'm reopening my free essay advice. Glad to hear so many people getting in at great schools... Wharton, LBS, Duke... They're all great- everything's a question of fit.

Feel free to ask any questions, or email me at jason.teo.wg10@wharton.upenn.edu. I'm happy to look at your essays to give you some tips.

Cheers!
Jason

welcome

In other news, changes are afoot at my alma mater, Wharton! http://whartonjournal.com/?p=1240

I LOVE the flexibility added here:

Content – Students will be offered two pathways through required core areas, so will have more opportunity to tailor their course of study to their long- and short-term goals.
For example, the Management Department offers a track for those pursuing careers in established firms and another for those interested in emerging firms, teaching the same concepts, but offering different approaches in how to apply them.

Learning Style – A few of the required courses are now offered in different formats; students can choose the format they prefer.
For example, the Marketing Department offers a marketing strategy course taught through lectures and case studies, and another that will primarily use simulations.

Being able to choose how you learn is a no-brainer. "Management" has always had the problem that it means very different things to go into "General" management vs "Entrepreneurial" Management. That aside, for me, personally, simulations are far more powerful than case studies. If I had a choice then, EVERYTHING would have been a simulation! I immediately understood a product S curve when I started seeing sales of our best seller begin to plunge during our marketing simulation...

Jason, thank you!

Your posts always encourage me to go forward. I will try my best in this autumn for 2013 wharton application. Do you have any advice for essay preparation? You know, to start is always hard and out-of-order. I am not sure where the first step is.

Appreciate your time and help!
