正确答案是Ｃ．其他都好理解．但是后面那个there were的were,我觉得不对啊，应该用was，请大Ｎ指点

这里的比较比的是小学生的人数，而且前面用的也是many

或许能这样理解were:
four times as many as修饰thirty-two pupils
there are now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many than there were [eight pupils] four years ago.

也就是说可以理解为：
there is now one microcomputer for every thirty-two pupils, four times as many [microcomputers] as there were four years ago.

也就是说这题前面虽然再说比例， 但实际上说的是电脑的数量  所以还是应该用plural

我也觉得 最后的解释有道理。前面是as many computers，所以用 were比较合理.
