2008.2.16 Agree or disagree? Grades(marks) encourage students to learn.
2008.2.16 Agree or disagree? Grades(marks) encourage students to learn.
Have you ever noticed the phenomenon that most students hold diverse attitudes towards their study, mainly affected by the grades they get in exams? In China, where scores are considered the only standard to evaluate one’s study, it is hard to discover whether scores have the magic effect to encourage students’ study, for the fact that students see their marks in various meanings.
Let’s focus on a low mark first. Suppose that you are a bad student who fails every exam. If a grade of “D” is presented, you may get customed to it, suggesting yourself that it is impossible for you to catch up any more. This pessimistic idea put out your ambition in your heart, which gives you no stimulation to study hard. Even you are a top student, you might be beaten by a surprisingly low mark as long as you can’t face it correctly. You probably begin to feel embarrased, finding that everyone else seems to laugh at you, thus losing your confidence to stand up again. This time, grades play as a collosal rock in your way of study, doing nothing beneficial to you.
However, there are times when a low mark can and will spur you deeply, leading the way of your success in the future. I clearly remember the days when I spent too much time dealing with issues in my class because I am a monitor. All those confusing problems distracted my attention to study, resulting in a terrible score in my paper that had never appeared before. Terrified to see it, I was shocked, making up my mind to fight for a high mark after that. Struggling to assimilate knowledge industriously everyday, I finally achieved my goal. I show this experience of mine mainly to illustrate that even a low mark have the possibility to involve students in hard work.
Despite by a low mark, students seems more willing to make efforts to study when they gain a high one. It is common sense that we are satisfied with harvest we have got for the sweat we have paid, contributing to a further hard work to gain more.
Well, it is obvious that whether grades can encourage students’ study depends on sorts of situations. All in all, the most suitable way for we students to study is to see our grades in a proper way, making it a symbol to stimulate us to a better achievement as time goes by.
第二篇:
Many people in the world share a belief that grades make students work hard. I agree with the above statement because I believe that high grades are more helpful in getting a bright future.
One of benefits of the high grade is that it promotes a learner's interest. Interest is the best motivation to encourage students to learn. If a learner has a good score in English, he will find that English is a beautiful language. For example I love to learn math, because it brings me happiness when I get a high score in a math exam. When I went to university, I select mach as my major.
The second reason is that schools give us a chance to learn knowledge, why not try our best to get it. In our lives these knowledge has important effect on our mind which need be wise by an by. In addition, self-credit may be instruct by good marks. It is also important to our life.
A further solid argument for the high grade is that it means a good future career. Many companies would rather hire students who are with high grades.
As far as I am concerned, I come to the notion that there are main reasons why I support that grades encourage students to learn. Firstly, high scores spring learner' interests. Secondly, students get self-credit through it. Furthermore, A good job may wait these students who have high marks.
[托福参看范文之二] In many schools, teachers evaluate students by their grades. Many people think that it is unfair and one-sided to evaluate students by grades and will discourage students to learn. I believe, however, grades encourage students to learn. The reasons can be analyzed as follows.
To begin with, using grades as standard to evaluate students can give students stress of learning. No stress, no motivity. In order to get high grades, students must study hard. They must read more books, do their homework carefully. Stress makes them learn more knowledge. Stress of grades simultaneously force and encourage students to learn.
Grades can encourage students to compete with each other. The modern society is full of competition. Students can learn the concept of competition through grades. At the same time, they can learn the spirit of competition. To compete with others and obtain good evaluation, students must learn many techniques and get high grades. Competing grades in schools can make students more adaptable to the society.
Grades can also give students the feeling of success. When they get high grades through hard work, students may think that they make a great achievement. The feeling of success will encourage students to study harder and harder. At the same time, the successes in schools encourage students to find chances to succeed in society.
From the above analyses, it is not difficult to get the conclusion that grades encourage students to learn. Grades give students the stress and make them compete with each other so that they must study and work hard to succeed.

Everyone has exams in school and every exam will have a score. Although score is not the only factor that stimulates student to study well, but I do think it at least weighs something in students' study.
To begin with, I want to say that no one wants to fail in any exams, and as a result, they will struggle to at least get a "pass" in their courses. Take one of my roommates as an example. He is extremely fond of computer games and usually spends seven to eight hours every day playing them. However, when exams approach, he will stop playing and pick up the basic knowledge in every subject in order to pass all the exams. He says he does not want to fail in any exams. I dare say, if my school has no requirement on the score of the courses, he will not learn as much as he now does.
Secondly, as we all know, it is become more and more difficult to get a job in nowadays society. Therefore, we need to be more excellent in school in order to be hired. In fact, many companies, especially those big ones, are putting more emphasis on the school performance of their applicants, thus a high GPA can usually be very attractive to those employers.
Finally, as far as I am concerned, high scores are the acknowledgement of all the efforts I made in school. I enter university to learn, and becoming a well educated man is both the dream of myself and also the expectation of my parents. To prove that I have really finished what I am expected to learn, I must do well in all the subjects in my education. Only in that way can I say confidently that I am a talented Chinese, and I am useful to the society. For these reasons, I feel obliged to get high marks in my subjects and thus work hard.
To sum up, I am convinced that high scores are really worth pursuing, because it can not only save students a lot of trouble but also prove to both employers and ourselves that we are really educated, and we are indeed useful. |
