You did not get the point. If you indeed get interested in finance or accounting tomorrow, how are you sure you will not lose such interest someday in the future, as you did for economics.

其实看到很多勇敢的女性读PHD就想到三个金融领域前辈，Pan Jun, Jiang wei and Xia Yihong（英年早逝太可惜了），也见过其中两个，无论是学术还是人品都是翘楚。    所以不管怎样，对于在读或者准备读的女同胞们，还是禁不住由衷地佩服，这条路毕竟不是想象得那么简单，兴趣/智商都是次要的，学术到最后其实就是对体力/意志和心理承受能力的考验了。     真是不好意思，唠叨了这么多，please ignore me for sample bias.

hehe, 没气没气。我不是听不得意见的人，可能碰巧不喜欢被问的问题吧，感觉被触到了tattoo一样。后来看了看问题确实问得不好，所以我删了。当时就想着赶紧发了帖子睡觉，没想那么多，算个教训吧。

其实很多学生申请经济学的时候都没有确定的方向，读了一半改换门庭的也大有人在。我们系一个老师就是如此，这也没有妨碍他后来成为自己领域的top researcher。录取委员会也都明白这一点，所以并不看重ps里声称的兴趣方向，而且鼓励学生入学后多选field courses，有一个全景式的概念。可能商科由于是分专业录取，所以对兴趣的match更强调一些？

No. Your interpretation is totally nonsense. Research is not just about interest, not to say how much a PhD degree is relied on interest. Researchers may change interests from time to time. Even if you graduate with an Econ degree, you may still do research in finance or accounting or whatever you are interested in later, and make great achievements.

However, I believe you don't want to pick up an interest now, lose it someday in the future, and say you have to give it up and find a new program. And you don't want to repeat such a process again and again.
