因为although是连词呀.注定要跟完整的句子. 但是它这个选项中只有 sighted, 这是什么? 这是过去分词(表被动),不是谓语动词呀,用被动的话:就是 are sighted, 主语其实就是文中的主语 Sunspots, 只是它省略了而已,因为是平行对称结构.

回答楼上的疑问. they 应该要指代 Sunspots. 但是这里最好直接写 sunspots 或省略, 因为用了代词 they, 既可以指代 dark spots 也可以指代 sunspots. 容易混淆.

不能这么省啊,前面的are和后面的生略的are 功能不一致，前者是系动词，后者是助动词
退一步讲，即便是那样可以，这种形势也很容意误解成短语带来修饰的歧义

appear  的意思是出现，黑子从来都在太阳表面，所以不能用出现。
