now that连在一起的时候，有“既然”的意思，那么这里就造成了ambiguity。

另外，这里的意思是：巨大的冰层在如今温带的区域存在过，that are temperate是修饰areas的，应该紧跟着areas，而且now本来就是指“现在的温带”，因此也应该放在temperate前面。

我也选过E，不如这样理解， now 放在that前面完全有可能被看成跟前面的句子一起, when great ice sheets existed in areas now 停顿 that are temperate，前面的句子变成existed (过去时) + now （现在时态的标志）的句子, 不就乱套了吗, now 是应该在that后面这个句子的

或者是在不行咱们就按OG说的死记 now 是副词，应该在动词are 后面.

请NN 指点！

放在这句话中我可以理解为什么NOW的位置应该在are后
OG的解释是NOW is an adverb and shoud be placed just after the verb ARE，难道说所有的副词都要放在动词后吗？

manhatton语法书讲过，副词不能修饰名词，可以修饰形容词。所以in areas now that are temperate错！ now错误的修饰了名词areas,应该放到形容词temperate那里去。in areas that are now temperate

NOW只有adv与conj两种词性——longman & Oxford
