Thunderbird receives largest business school naming gift in history |
Today, it is indeed an honor -- and a delight -- for me to be able to share with you exciting news regarding a transformational $60 million gift that has been presented to Thunderbird by alumnus Sam Garvin '88 and his wife Rita, the most generous cumulative donors in Thunderbird history.
This legacy will support and enhance the educational experience for which the school is renowned. The significant and increased scholarship commitment to students in our fulltime program will provide access to learning for an enhanced number of people as Thunderbird continues its global expansion of programs, facilities, opportunities and influence. In honor of the gift, the school will be renamed Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management. This generous contribution is the largest naming gift ever received by a business school, and it will be officially presented in early April.
According to Thunderbird President Roy A. Herberger, Jr., 揟hunderbird has a history of education that is thoroughly international. This gift will support our ability to continuously improve operations on four continents while furthering our investments in a world class faculty. The Garvins' gift also focuses on the importance of attracting outstanding students through scholarships and a curriculum designed to consistently meet the demands of a global economy. This wonderful act of generosity fuels our commitment to the values that have made Thunderbird the top ranked international management program in the world."
Garvin is chairman and CEO of Continental Promotion Group, Inc. (CPG), a global commercial fulfillment business with clients in 26 countries. Garvin first designed CPG's business model while studying at Thunderbird, and has credited the school with providing him, and other successful Thunderbirds worldwide, with the skills needed to work successfully in the international marketplace. Garvin currently serves on the Boards of Trustees of Thunderbird and Phoenix Country Day School, and several other community boards.
揟his gift is just the beginning of what I expect to be a unified and generous program of support for the school, and through it, I hope to inspire others to give so that Thunderbird can continue to provide students with the skills necessary to achieve not only lifetime business skills, but also lifetime success in global citizenship,?said Garvin.?Today, the world needs more global business leaders to serve as bridges between cultures, and the Thunderbird degree, with its emphasis on world business, international studies and language, is perhaps the most important, relevant and respected advanced degree a student of world business can possess.?
We hope you're equally excited about this gift and the positive impact it will have on student scholarship awards and in attracting coveted international faculty to the school.
Sincerely,
Ms. Judy Johnson Associate Vice President Admissions and Financial Aid
