If you can afford, go for NYU. Your chance of getting into MIT will be greater next year if you can get a few letters from the finance faculty there.

it is u of south carolina, not u of southern california... you have to take risk if you choose go to NYU. For MIT, it is about luck. Dont count too much on the mfe program if your target is schools like mit.

If you are serious, according to your poor background(only relative to mit, hehe), the best thing you should do is apply for a math phd, and apply to mit 5 years later.

不过录取的时候从diversify的角度，还是会有数学统计背景的。
其实现在的背景就那么3  5类，到了final list同质性的趋势越来越明显，推荐信就是决定offer和waitlist的关键因素。
中国人以往的job market star和现在的一些领军人物都是以数学见长的。
