原文的意思是说统治世界的人比he更加（wealthier, better-educated, and more polished ), 如果补出was，要么是he和world that was比较，逻辑上根本不通；要么是he和Midwesterner who was比较，可是有没有比较级的adj;

2, 'than he was' -- most of the times, 'was' should not be omitted. however, it can be omitted when there is only one subject and a verb. the bottomline is that the omission won't cause imbiguity.

who had been thrust是过去完成时态,表示the action had ceased at a point of past time.是ets常常说的过去完成时态的错误.


was 的问题呐,是可以省.因为意思不会改.

刚看了白勇的语法书，说比较从句联系动词be与主句联系动词be相同，可以省略be，也可以不省略。


但是前面好像是wealthier, better-educated, and more polished people 和 he比较，前面就没有was呢。。但是为什么是he而不是him呢？
