question: is banning smoking in public places a good rule or a bad rule ?

in some countries people are not allowed to smoke in many public places and office buildings. Do you think this is a good rule or bad rule ?  Use specific reasons and details to support your position.

Smoking in public places has been a prevailing phenomenon in China. In my opinion, it has brought about much more disadvantages than advantages.  Consequently banning smoking in public places is obviously a good rule .I will give my explanations in the following statements.

The most persuasive evidence is that banning smoking in public places can improve the air condition. There are a large amount of non-smokers who are in favor of a non-smoke environment. If the public places are full of smokes, they will be very uncomfortable and unwilling to stay there anymore. For instance, I am having a dinner with friends in a restaurant and we are all non-smokers. When we are enjoying our delicious food, a customer seating by the next table just finished his meal and lights on his cigarette. Although this kind of behavior does not violate the regulations in this restaurant if smoking is not banned, it will undoubtedly disgust people who don't smoke like us. Establishing the rule of banning smoking will benefit us through modifying the atmosphere in the public places such as the restaurants.

Moreover, prohibiting smoking in public areas, especially in workplace, can undeniably increase our work efficiency. Smoking is a time-consuming activity which will occupy much work time. In an accelerated developing modern society, people's steps of working and living are getting fast increasingly. Thus we have to concentrate on our intensive affairs, which mean there is less spare time left for us to do some personal activity such as smoking. Considering that every employee spend average 1 hour smoking in office hour per day, how will the work efficiency in this company be like? How will this kind of corporation survive in the highly competitive commercial battlefield? Publishing the proscription of smoking in public places can effectively prevent this kind of problem occurring, subsequently improve the efficiency of work.

Finally, there is also a more practical reason I want to argue: Proscription of smoking in public region can bring much benefit to our health (condition). Smoking negatively affects everyone’s health, especially lung and respiration system. Statistics analysis shows that, 90 percent of the smokes one person breath in is from other people's cigarette. As we all know, smoking is a major cause of lung cancer, as well as some other deadly diseases. When you are smoking in the public places, other people present are involuntarily inhaling as the same amount of smokes as the smokers. It will not only decrease your health condition, but also increase others’ probability of getting lung cancer. Were smoking prohibited, our average health condition will apparently improve.

Maybe it is too arbitrary to say that there are no positive effects of smoking in public places at all in everyone's life. Actually  it may indeed stimulates the industry of cigarettes, increase the communication of who share the common interests in smoking, etc. However, comparing with negative effects bring by smoking, they are appearing too insignificant and worthless of consideration.

Taking into account of all the evidences illustrated above, we may safely come to the conclusion that banning smoking in public places is a good regulation. It will benefit all of us, leading us to a clean and harmony world, providing us better future(s).
