                            此处第一个it是形式主语，第二个指的是tomato，可以这样用吗？？？

                     答案是B，此处第一个it是形式主语，第二个it也是形式主语，但是指代不同，按照答案，是可以这样用的。

In my opinion, it is ok to change the sentence as you stated.     The grammar is ok.     But it is strange to use "assume" with virtual subject "it".     I think that if we use personal noun or pronoun, it will be better.

我觉得不行啊, it was far more efficient to solicit private funds,IT在这里是做形式主语,而且没有FREE N.,不会有歧义.


可是在and it was assumed that it had poisonous properties because of its relationship to deadly nightshade.中,因为前面有个AND很容易误会是同前半句的平行,这样IT应该指代the tomato,就有歧义了.
