The very nature of the Wharton process (multiple reads by different readers) means that most interview invites will only go out in the last week of so, so don't worry.
And with regards to how important GMAT is, contrary to what some may believe, it really isn't. Not even for Chinese applicants. Applications are randomly assigned to readers, who judge all applicants in the same pool. So the Chinese applicant who had gone to Oxford to study political science (which may or may not be the same as PPE) and then worked in IB/PE will be judged in the same way as the 'lao wai' who did the same thing. In fact, at Wharton we constantly struggle with trying to correct the perception that some applicants- particularly from many Asian societies, where test scores determine our future more than ECs and other qualitative measures- put way too much weight on "G, T", "GPA", etc and other "numbers", and not enough weight on what's really important- the essays.
One interesting thing, I spoke to a Wharton adcom member last week and asked what adcoms mean by 'applicants listen to c********* too much' and it seems like many people, having obtained information through the same forums or taken the same classes, end up writing essays that look very similar- start with a 'hook', go through the same format, and end the same way. It is these, the adcom member said, that Wharton struggles most with- trying to correct the perception that there's a formula ('write your essay this way, get a GMAT of xyz and a TOEFL score of abc, and you're in!').
So whatever your profile, however low a GMAT or TOEFL score you have, however poorly you think you write, go ahead and apply! Communicate why you're unique and how you're different in your essays (of course, along with why we should take you), and you'll have as good a chance as any.
PS, I feel very strongly about this because many people told me I shouldn't apply, and that I didn't have a chance at Wharton, applying straight out of college. Nonetheless I applied, and here I am! So as long as you feel confident, don't let others change your mind!
Good luck all!
