Like your article, giving me a detailed descripition of true world of finance phd. Anyway, I am in Texas Tech, rawls BS. Not very top one. My major is in Finance of MBA program. Do u think there is a chance for me to apply for Top phd since neither I am from a named university in China or a top BS in USA. If there is a chance, what I can prepare for the future since I am a new one here? Thanks a lot for your article.
It is very hard for you to get in top phd (finance) program since Texas Tech is not a top university. And MBA in finance is not very helpful for your application for phd. But you can try.
Firstly I should clarify that the artical is not my work; I copied it from another forum.
For your question, it's very difficult to make a judgement only based on what you have said. However, top Finance PhD is very very selective now. You have chances, if your GMAT and GPA are very high, and you have got some research experience on finance research. If you can get reference letters from famous professors, you will be somewhat standing out in the future application.
Frankly, I think, for you, the chance is determined by your research experience. If you have no splendid research experience, it's very difficult to be admitted by top schools. In fact, besides the top 15 finance programs, there are many other very good finance programs. You may diversify your target schools.
